As part of the Science Decade, on April 24, 2026, the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering hosted an international round table on the topic “Environmental Safety, Sustainable Development, and the Introduction of Innovative Technologies in the Oil and Gas Industry: Practical Tasks and Solutions” with the participation of representatives from universities of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation, and Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the event was to discuss current issues of environmental safety in the oil and gas industry, exchange scientific and practical experience, and develop international cooperation between higher education institutions.

Teachers, scientists, and specialists of the oil and gas industry took part in the round table. The Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development, the implementation of innovative technologies, and an environmentally responsible approach in the modern development of the oil and gas sector.

During the event, informative and relevant presentations were delivered. Tatyana Vladimirovna Drabkoma, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Faculty of Oil and Gas at Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov, presented a report on “Synthesis of Functional Sorption Materials Based on Oil and Gas Chemical Waste for Wastewater Treatment: Innovative Solutions and Environmental Safety,” where modern methods of waste processing and improving environmental efficiency were discussed.

Particular interest was attracted by the presentation of Irina Petrovna Sitdikova, a representative of Almetyevsk State Oil Institute, who shared practical experience in implementing modern environmental and production solutions in the regional oil industry.

Mansurbek Rakhimberganovich Sharifov, Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology of the Faculty of Oil and Gas at Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov, presented a report on “Denitrifying Bacteria of Oil and Gas Fields,” which addressed biotechnological approaches to reducing environmental impact.

B.A. Biketov, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering at WKITU, presented a report on “Innovative Technologies in the Oil and Gas Sector of Western Kazakhstan: Tasks and Prospects,” focusing on regional features of implementing new technologies and future development prospects of the industry.

The final stage of the event was an open discussion during which participants discussed practical barriers to innovation implementation, issues of environmental responsibility of enterprises, and prospects for expanding interuniversity scientific cooperation.

Following the round table, participants noted the high importance of international cooperation in solving urgent problems of the oil and gas industry and expressed their readiness for further joint scientific research.

Such events contribute to strengthening partnership relations, developing academic mobility, and forming a modern scientific environment focused on sustainable development and environmental safety.
