On May 5, 2025, faculty members and students of the Department of Power Engineering, Automation and Computer Engineering at the West Kazakhstan Innovative and Technological University took part in the international round table “Candle of Memory,” held at Tambov State Technical University.The purpose of the event was to strengthen interethnic ties, preserve historical memory, and foster patriotic consciousness among young people.

The round table gathered representatives from universities of various countries. Representing the West Kazakhstan Innovative and Technological University were senior lecturer Assel Nurbulatovna Shatekova and third-year student Alexander Svetlakov from the Department of Power Engineering, Automation and Computer Engineering.

In her welcome speech, Assel Nurbulatovna Shatekova emphasized the importance of preserving the historical truth about the events of the Great Patriotic War, expressed deep gratitude to the veterans for their heroism, and shared a personal story about her grandfather — Yesentai Shatekova (1914–2001). He fought all the way to Berlin and has remained a symbol of courage, resilience, and honor for his family.

Alexander Svetlakov gave a presentation on the contribution of the Kazakh people to the Great Victory. He highlighted Kazakhstan’s unique role as a reliable wartime rear, and spoke about the heroic deeds of the republic’s native heroes — Aliya Moldagulova, Manshuk Mametova, Baurzhan Momyshuly, Talgat Begeldinov, and others. He also stressed the importance of preserving family memory by sharing stories about his own relatives who participated in the war.

The presentations were accompanied by slide shows featuring historical facts, biographies of war heroes, personal memories, and patriotic messages aimed at fostering respect for the past and awareness of the value of peace in today’s world.

The “Candle of Memory” event became not only a scientific and practical platform, but also a heartfelt meeting of generations, where each participant contributed to preserving the memory of the people’s great feat.
