Each country has its own list of peer-reviewed scientific publications, which are approved by official scientific organizations or government departments. In Russia, such a list is the “List of peer-reviewed scientific publications in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the scientific degree of Candidate of Sciences, for the scientific degree of Doctor of Science should be published,” approved by the Higher Attestation Commission (Higher Attestation Commission). This list includes scientific journals and publications that take part in the Russian scientific certification system (hereinafter referred to as VAK journals, VAK List). These journals are considered decisive for assessing the scientific activities of universities, scientific institutes and scientists in Russia, as well as for obtaining scientific degrees and titles. HAC journals are high-quality publications where scientific articles, monographs, and reviews devoted to various scientific fields are published.

Who needs publication in journals recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation?

Firstly, publication in such a publication is recognized by the academic community and is one of the criteria for scientific status. This increases the authority of the author and his scientific significance.

Secondly, an article published in the journal can be used when applying for grants or participating in competitions. This may improve the author’s chances of receiving additional financial support for research.

Thirdly, the publication of an article in a professional publication ensures its accessibility to colleagues in the specialty and those interested in this topic. It may also attract new readers to the author’s other works and help expand his scientific contacts.

Fourthly, for young scientists, the publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is one of the criteria for assessing the quality of scientific work when defending a dissertation or obtaining an academic degree. This can improve the author’s chances of successful defense and career advancement in the academic community.

Fifthly, having an article in the Higher Attestation Commission journal is also necessary when applying to graduate school. For example, in some universities, even when entering certain master’s programs, a higher score is assigned for an article in the Higher Attestation Commission journal.
