Last week, the staff of the West Kazakhstan University of Innovation and Technology received gratitude from akim of Uralsk M.M. Satkanov “for the merits of the University in saving the lives of the population and protecting settlements from floods during the emergency situation in the city of Uralsk.”
On May 6, the city’s akimat also held a presentation of letters of appreciation from the mayor to the 23 most distinguished students of WKITU who had participated in the response to a natural disaster during the emergency.
The faculty and student staff of our university took an active part in the past flood control events of the city, contributing to the common cause of supporting the population in difficult times. Students, teachers and staff strengthened protective structures, filled and placed sacks in the flood zone, and provided assistance to residents of the city. Students of the volunteer headquarters of WKITU participated in the evacuation of the population, unloading and delivery of humanitarian aid, distribution of food in evacuation points of the city.
To provide assistance to flood victims, the university staff transferred funds in the amount of about 3 million tenge to the charity fund. The founders of WKITU decided to organize and finance at their own expense the nutrition of students and university teachers participating in the fight against natural disaster. With the support of the founders, an evacuation center for 100 places was also organized.
The past flood control events have shown that no one has remained indifferent to the plight of fellow countrymen, and that only through joint efforts we will overcome all difficulties. Our strength lies in unity!
