On October 16, 2024, the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Technosphere Safety conducted a practice-oriented lesson on the discipline “Veterinary Hygiene and Sanitation” on the basis of a veterinary laboratory for students of the 2nd year of Veterinary Medicine. The practice-oriented lesson was conducted by M.K. Sheblykina, head of the Laboratory of Veterinary and Sanitary, Phyto-sanitary expertise of Karaozen LLP, and N.O. Abatova, senior lecturer at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Technosphere Safety.

During the classes, under the guidance of a veterinarian, students got acquainted with the protocol of veterinary and sanitary examination and laboratory studies of meat and meat products of domestic animals, poultry meat, milk and dairy products, fish and fish products, eggs, bee honey. We learned how to determine organaleptic parameters, the general diet background, and the cooking sample and were able to evaluate the results of these indicators in electronic form in the VetLab system. The students also learned that in accordance with veterinary legislation, the laboratory issues a veterinary certificate with complete results of veterinary and sanitary examination and laboratory tests.

Conducting practice-oriented classes helps graduates of our University of Veterinary Medicine to solve issues of professional development, and also allows them to successfully adapt to further professional activities in the workplace.
