Representatives of the US Embassy in Kazakhstan visited the Institute of Education and Management of the West Kazakhstan Innovative and Technological University. Specialist of the press, culture and education department of the US Embassy Sarah Smith, coordinator of the American Corner in the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhanar Kulzhaeva and coordinator of the American Corner in Uralsk Dina Kalmurzina held negotiations with the leadership of the university, faculty and teachers of secondary schools. First vice-rector for educational and methodological work of the University Mashanova S.A. and vice-rector for scientific work and international relations Zhubantaev I.N. noted that this meeting is of great importance in establishing effective bilateral cooperation.
– We are interested in expanding cooperation in all mutually beneficial areas. We hope that native English speakers will come to our university and give guest lectures in their native language to students and magistrands of the educational programs “Translation Studies” and “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages”. We are also interested in the participation of our scientists in international research projects implemented within the framework of cooperation programs between the United States of America and the Republic of Kazakhstan, said I.N. Zhubantaev.
Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies, Candidate of Philology Matzhanova G.Zh. made a report on joint projects of the public association of English teachers of the West Kazakhstan region “TEO” and the department, Ph.D. Tikhonyuk E.V. shared her experience of studying in the USA under the Fulbright program.
In turn, culture and education specialist Sarah Smith shared information about the embassy’s current programs and current priorities for the embassy’s activities. She also spoke about the embassy’s implementation of partnership development programs between universities in Kazakhstan and the United States. According to her, the programs are aimed at increasing the scientific and professional potential of the university’s administrative and teaching staff, improving and updating university programs, and stimulating the academic mobility of students and undergraduates.
Dina Kalmurzina emphasized that students of the department actively participate in the work of the American Corner, and expressed confidence that this will contribute to the development of volunteer activities in the future.
At a fruitful meeting, the parties agreed to establish cooperation to implement joint projects.
