On April 7, 2022, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Nurlan Abdirov, met with the youth of our region. Students of the West Kazakhstan Innovation and Technology University took an active part.

Opening the meeting, Nurlan Abdirov noted that currently the Central Election Commission travels to all regions to study the opinion of the electorate on improving the electoral process, and youth, which is about 36% of voters, is one of the significant components of the electorate.

There was an active discussion of the pros and cons of the proportional, majority electoral system, the need to use social networks during election campaigning, including during pre-election debates, as well as informing young people.

Representatives of youth organizations proposed that the CEC conduct training events to improve legal literacy and electoral culture of young people.

Nurlan Abdirov supported the youth’s proposal and stressed that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his Message notes the need to develop the political culture of the country’s citizens, and political culture includes electoral culture. Therefore, the Central Election Commission will pay special attention to this issue.

Following the meeting, the youth representatives expressed gratitude to the Central Election Commission for providing an open dialogue platform on topical issues of the electoral process.

The Chairman of the CEC, in turn, thanked the youth for the interested dialogue that took place. “I am proud that I live at this time, in this country, in this city, and that we have politically literate, active and creative youth,” he stressed.
