On January 18, 2025, under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department of Veterinary and Technosphere Safety at the Institute of Industry Technologies WKITU, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences A.K. Dnekeshev, a master class in the discipline “Operative Surgery” was organized on the topic: “Anatomical Rationale for Performing an Ocular Block as an Improved Method for Ante-Mortem Diagnosis of Teliaziosis in Cattle.” The event took place in Room 204 at the WKITU, Veterinary Clinic and utilized an interactive board, posters, and an anatomical specimen of a cow skull.

The purpose of this master class was to familiarize students with the technique of performing a retrobulbar blockade in cattle and to demonstrate it on an anatomical specimen. This method was considered in a comparative aspect as an improved method for diagnosing thelaziasis. Based on a detailed anatomical and craniometric study of the bony structure of the cattle’s orbit, the exact direction and depth of the injection needle insertion during the retrobulbar blockade were determined. During the session, a demonstration of this technique was conducted, allowing 3rd- and 4th-year students of the master class to better understand anatomical landmarks and the specifics of the blockade.

The conducted master class confirmed the high efficiency of the retrobulbar blockade as an advanced method for the ante-mortem diagnosis of thelaziasis in cattle. This method significantly facilitates the examination process of animals and increases diagnostic accuracy, contributing to the timely and effective treatment of the disease. The implementation of this approach in veterinary practice can significantly improve the level of diagnostics and veterinary care for cattle. Participants of the master class noted the practical significance of the acquired knowledge and expressed interest in further studying similar methodologies and conducting lectures in the format of master classes.
