On April 23, 2026, an open practical class was conducted in group ND-31O under the educational program 6B07204 – «Oil and Gas Engineering» in accordance with the academic plan. The class was held within the discipline «Pump and Compressor Stations» on the topic «Methods of Preventing Hydraulic Shock».

The purpose of the lesson was to develop students’ understanding of the causes of hydraulic shock in pump stations, to analyze its impact on pipeline systems, and to study modern methods of its prevention and mitigation.

During the practical session, students examined the physical nature and mechanisms of hydraulic shock and analyzed its effects on pipeline system components. The main methods of preventing hydraulic shock at pump stations were studied, including:

  • ensuring gradual opening and closing of valves;
  • applying pressure regulation and stabilization devices;
  • using air chambers and hydraulic accumulators;
  • selecting optimal operating modes of the pipeline system;
  • implementing automatic and emergency protection systems.

Throughout the lesson, students completed group assignments, solved practice-oriented tasks close to real industrial conditions, and presented engineering solutions aimed at reducing the impact of hydraulic shock.

The open class was conducted at a high organizational and methodological level and contributed to increasing students’ interest in the discipline as well as developing their professional competencies.
