From October 12 to 16, 2026, a seminar entitled «Scientometrics for Researchers: From Searching for Scientific Sources to Publishing Research Papers» was held as part of the Teaching Excellence School for the academic staff of the departments of the Institute of Industrial Technologies (IIT) at the West Kazakhstan Innovation and Technological University (WKUIT).

The event was organized by the Center for Information and Educational Resources and the Department of Science and International Relations.

The seminar addressed key aspects of working with international scientific databases, searching for and selecting scientific literature, and using scientometric indicators to evaluate research performance. Particular attention was paid to the Hirsch index, one of the indicators used to assess researchers’ scientific productivity and citation impact, as well as methods for determining the h-index using the Scopus and Web of Science international databases.

Participants learned about the main requirements for preparing and publishing research papers in domestic and international scientific journals, the criteria for selecting an appropriate journal, and ways to use information resources effectively to increase the visibility of research findings.

Such events help strengthen the professional competencies of academic staff, develop the research capacity of the Institute of Industrial Technologies, and increase the university’s publication output.

The seminar provided a platform for sharing experience and discussing practical approaches to the key stages of preparing a scientific publication. Participants explored methods and tools used throughout the research publication process, from searching for and analyzing scientific literature to selecting a suitable journal and presenting research findings to the academic community.
