On November 7, 2025, the Department of Law of the West Kazakhstan Innovative-Technological University (WKITU) organized a practice-oriented class for students of groups 31-0, 32-0, and 33-0 enrolled in the educational program 6B04202 – Jurisprudence.
The lesson was held at the Operational Forensic Unit of the Department of Police for the West Kazakhstan Region (WKR DP) within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between WKITU and the regional police department.
The session was conducted by Associate Professor of the Department of Law, Candidate of Juridical Sciences T.Kh. Rakhmetov, together with Senior Forensic Inspector of the Operational Forensic Unit, Police Major B.A. Sarsekenov.
During the lesson, students studied practical topics such as Forensic Technology, Tracology, Odorology, and Forensic Records.
At the department’s facilities, students were shown the process of forming dactyloscopic (fingerprint) forensic records, the procedure for registering suspects in criminal and administrative cases, and the methods of crime scene examination, including the detection, fixation, and collection of footprints and fingerprints using technical means from the investigator’s kit during simulated cases of theft from a vehicle and unlawful entry into a residence.
Students also observed the work of the odorological laboratory, including how investigators and forensic specialists detect and collect scent samples from crime scenes and suspects, and identify them using service dogs from the K-9 unit of the Department of Police. A video presentation on the operations of the forensic odorology laboratory was shown to participants.
Senior Forensic Expert Bolatbek Askerbekovich Sarsekenov introduced students to the Mobile Forensic Laboratory of the Operational Forensic Unit, demonstrating its technical equipment and practical application in investigating serious crimes across the region. Police Major Sarsekenov also answered all questions from the students.
At the end of the session, Head of the Operational Forensic Unit, Police Colonel Aikumys T. Magzomova, addressed the students. She spoke about the history and current tasks of the department, wished the students success in their studies, and invited them to undertake internships and future employment at the department after graduation.
