On May 30, 2023, in honor of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression and Famine, the West Kazakhstan Innovative and Technological University, together with the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan of the West Kazakhstan Region, held a round table on the topic: “Tarikhtan tagylym – ötkenge tagzym”.

On May 31, 2012, the opening of the monument “Monument to the Victims of the Famine of 1932-1933” took place in Astana, which is a tribute to the memory of the millions of victims of the famine. Secondly, the younger generation should know what horrors their ancestors experienced. In this regard, the round table, organized by the West Kazakhstan Innovative and Technological University and the regional department of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, is called “Tarikhtan tagylym – ötkenge tagzym”.

The round table was attended by historians, philosophers, philologists, undergraduates and students of the West Kazakhstan Innovative and Technological University, representatives of ethno-cultural associations of the West Kazakhstan region, the media.

The purpose of the event is to show the younger generation the tragic history of the nation, the harsh period of the life of the people in the 20-30s of the last century, to show the consequences of the policy of the Soviet totalitarian regime, to promote the unity and harmony of nations and nationalities living today in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Informative reports and informative comments were presented at the round table. In particular, the Candidate of History, professor Kurmanalin S. B.  dwelled on the historical significance of political repressions and the horrors of mass famine of those years for the unification and consolidation of the modern Kazakh state. Candidate of History, associate professor Yernazarov Zh.T. presented a report on the life of the peoples deported to Kazakhstan in the 30-50-s of the twentieth century.

Candidate of Philology, associate professor  Mamyrov A.I. voiced the reflection in the literature and art of the harsh times of the Kazakh people, Candidate of History, associate professor  Bizhanova A.E. touched upon the issues of studying the process of political repressions in national history. Candidate of History  Balykova A.M. in her report voiced great changes in the demographic appearance of the country in the first half of the last century, the state of interethnic stability, cooperation of Kazakhstanis, the historical roots of these values.

The participants of the round table exchanged views and summarized the statement about the formation of an educated nation to prevent the repetition of such events in the future.
