On May 29, 2026, Zhangir Khan West Kazakhstan Agrarian and Technical University hosted an international scientific and practical seminar entitled “Antimicrobial Resistance: Global Challenges and Solutions”, organized with the support of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).

The seminar brought together faculty members, young researchers, master’s and doctoral students, as well as undergraduate students interested in current issues of microbiology, veterinary medicine, healthcare, and biotechnology. The event focused on the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance, one of the most serious threats to global public health, veterinary safety, and food security.

Participants discussed the rational use of antimicrobial agents, mechanisms of antibiotic resistance development in microorganisms, and modern approaches to monitoring and preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance. Leading experts in microbiology, veterinary medicine, and biotechnology delivered presentations and shared their research findings.

The seminar also highlighted international experience in combating antimicrobial resistance and explored opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration within the One Health framework. Special attention was given to laboratory diagnostics of antibiotic resistance, molecular genetic research methods, and effective strategies for controlling resistant microorganisms.
