In the modern educational space, training undergraduates and postgraduates on the Coursera platform provides an opportunity to get an international online education and obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to work in demanding fields.

From October 4 to December 6, 2022, 5 teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation, three undergraduates and two postgraduates of the “Foreign Language: two foreign languages” educational program and 4th-year seven students of the “Translation study” educational program of the West Kazakhstan innovative technological university took the “English for media literacy” course by University of Pennsylvania with financial aid on the Coursera. The course aims to develop a deep understanding of the role of the media in human life and expand the vocabulary and acquire the language skills necessary for the critical analysis of information in media. On January  2023, the participants got the official certificates after completing the course.

“Advancing English for Media Literacy” project was carried out with the support of the Regional English Language Office, the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, KazTEA (Association of English Teachers of the Republic of Kazakhstan), and the P.F. “The Society Development Information Support Fund” (FIPRO), and was funded by the Bureau of Education and Culture affairs of the U.S. State Department. The facilitator of the project is Samigolla N.A., the senior lecturer of the Faculty of Languages and Management at WKITU. Moreover, the project participants were awarded joint certificates from the U.S. Embassy and the Association of Teachers of English Language of Kazakhstan.
